Out of the Basement & Porch and into the Future:A History of J. Grippe Industrial Supply Co., Inc.

1962

This was the year when Joseph J. Grippe established his own industrial supply company. Located in Frankfort, New York, operating from his home, he used the basement cellar as a warehouse and the front porch for his office. Specializing in cutting tools, he entered an established, competitive market, where the days were long and lonely but his strong desire to succeed gave him the momentum to make his dream a reality.

1964

The business was incorporated with Joseph J. Grippe becoming the first President and his wife Mary Alice, as Secretary-Treasurer.

1970

With hard work and continuing dedication the business grew to the point where a modern 1,800 square foot facility was designed and constructed. The newly furnished complex included a large warehouse and paneled offices.

1978

This year saw the addition of a 3,800 square foot warehouse facility which was necessitated by the company's accelerated growth in the cutting tool business.

1978

Renovated the existing office area and increased the total office space.

1982

Seeing significant gains in cutting tool sales and the competition having taken notice of the new "company-on-the-block", a 3,200 square foot warehouse addition was constructed to accommodate the growth.

1984

The functions of accounting and inventory control were computerized to better serve the company's valued customers.

1985

With continued growth the workforce doubled in size from 5 to 10 employees.

1987

The company celebrated it's twenty-fifth anniversary and a major reorganization occurred. Joseph J. Grippe became Chairman, Joseph T. Grippe was promoted to President and Brian E. Grippe was promoted to Vice-President.

1989

A major computer system upgrade was committed to by purchasing and installing the "Prophet 21 System". In addition, a management consultant was retained who designed and developed a formal company policy and procedure manual.

1990

The company added two additional outside sales representatives to expand the company's presence in the marketplace.

1995

To continue to be competitive and offer the latest in state-of-the-art order processing the company added Electronic Data Interchange(EDI), Visa, Mastercard, and American Express availability.

1999

Implementation of Y2K compliance for the new millennium and a web site was designed and implemented to enhance the company's marketing strategies.

2000

We increased our work force by two employees for outside sales and customer service department.

2002

Implemented new master catalogs for customers. Updated our product line cards with additional manufactures we represent.

2004

Invested in computer software with P21 for additional services to our customers. Increased our parking lot size as our employee numbers grew.

2006

Expanded outside sales force for additional sales coverage and implemented an Expediting Department for customer service & support.

2008

Completed conference room renovation for sales meeting to be held at and also a lunch room area for employees to utilize.

We grieved the loss of Mary Alice Grippe; Secretary and Treasurer, Mother & friend who passed away with all their 10 children at her side.

2010

Bridget Grippe Foti was promoted to Vice President of Sales by Joseph J. Grippe, Chairman. J. Grippe Supply aligned the management team for future growth of business. We expanded our sales force by adding another sales rep to support our sales growth.

Our family, friends & employees mourned the passing of Joseph J. Grippe,­Chairman of the Board, and founder of J.Grippe Industrial Supply Co. Inc. along with wife Mary Alice. Mr. Grippe was stature in the community, business field, an accomplished musician, and a wonderful Father.

2011

Business conditions have grown to a point where an additional sales person was added for more sales coverage. We purchased a new enhancement upgrade for our computer system. In addition, a vending machine was brought into our stock room for expanding our services to our customers and inventory control.

We are in developmental stages of a Memorial Garden in honor of our Parents and Founders Joseph J. and Mary Alice Grippe with plans to host a dedication ceremony in 2012 to commemorate their lives along with celebration of J. Grippe Ind. Supply Co., Inc. 50th Anniversary in business.

2012

A 50th Anniversary Celebration was held at J. Grippe Supply Co., with all our employees, the Chamber of Commerce and many State and Local dignitaries.

Karen Grippe Rumrill- Senior Accountant, was presented with a Plaque of Recognition for her over 40 years of dedication and service as she has been a pillar to the longevity and success of J. Grippe Ind. Supply Co., Inc.

Jody T. Grippe- President, was also presented with a Plaque for his 40 years plus of dedication and leadership.

A plaque was hung at the entrance of J. Grippe Supply honoring the Late Joseph J. & Mary Alice Grippe for the establishment and incorporation of J. Grippe Industrial Supply in 1962. In addition, The Grippe Memorial Garden was unveiled and dedicated with a large family and special guest gathering.
